Keeping Track of Nano Totals

November 4, 2007

I’ve been keeping on schedule with my writing for NanoWriMo this month. I know it’s only been three days but I’m proud of myself for sticking with it and forcing myself to write before I go to bed no matter what.

Word total and progress calculations at the NaNo site are on the fritz because of server issues. I decided I wanted something more to keep track of my totals but didn’t want to create a generic looking table so I went surfing. Of course this was probably a bit of a procrastination attempt but I’ve been otherwise on schedule so I thought I’d treat myself.

I’m so glad I did. It took awhile and a few computer crashes later until I found this Excel NaNo novel tracker, actually called the NaNoWriMo Report Card, that was first designed by Erik Benson back in 2004 and updated by Stephanie Sama. I love it! It’s so pretty and simple to use.

Here’s what it looks like (click to enlarge):

The only areas that need to be filled out by the user are the orange ones. The form automatically fills in the rest including the nifty graphs. How nice is that?

    Hi Moe!

The column “At this rate you’ll be ready on” doesn’t calculate.

Sure it does. You have to have the page count and the hours filled in for the day.

It didn’t calculate, because I translated it into Finnish. Obviously the sheet didn’t like that at all.

When left as English, it calculates beautifully :) .
